My Journey

I was first published at the age of seven. My editor was my first-grade teacher, who would rewrite the stories I dreamed up on slices of copy paper bound with colorful construction paper covers. Looking back, it’s quite clear that storytelling was my passion. But, like so many, I listened to the societal din insisting a creative career path is not a viable one—at least not if you intend to eat.

The love of stories never left me, however, and I thought I could beat the system by making it big as a Hollywood movie director. A creative job with the money to match. Hah! Society, I outsmarted you!

Well, as suited as I was for the creative work in Hollywood, the professional climate of the movie business left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I decided it wasn't for me.

Let's fast-forward past my attempts to be happy in other non-creative work to 2020, when I had a profound moment— I almost went down the path to become a creative writing teacher. A noble profession to be sure, but a voice in my head said, “You are settling again.”

I then asked myself a not so simple question: “What would you want to do for the rest of your life that you would never get tired of?” My answer was actually quite simple— tell stories for a living, or play video games!

So, I combined the two things I loved most—storytelling and video games—and what do ya know, there are careers built around both.
